    Program overview

     GNU Image Manipulation Program (abbreviated as GIMP) - is a cross-platform and multi-propose product, having a single window user interface. GIMP gives the ability to create original images, screen and web graphics, photo retouching, convert and perform batch image processing. In addition, the program supports a large number of special effects and additional modules.

     System requirements for PC

    • Platform: Windows 10, 8 (8.1), XP, Vista or Windows 7 (32-bit & 64-bit) | Mac OS X 10.6 or later | Linux.


     Supported formats

    • Open files of the following formats: GIF, JPEG, PSD, PNG, TIFF, BMP, XWD, PIX, and many others.
    • Export files in different formats, including GIF, JPEG, PNG, TIFF, BMP, XCF.

     Image processing

    • Manual and automatic framing of photos to highlight the main objects in the photo.
    • Change the color scheme mode to RGB, grayscale, and indexed mode. RGB uses three color channels (red, green, and blue) including "grayscale" mode.
    • Support of tools for drawing on the image. The most popular tools of GIMP are: lighting / shading brush; removal of defects (Retouch) in the photo; selection shapes (rectangular, elliptical, free or in color); selection foreground; receiving a color of the image; casting; drawing with pen, pencil or brush.
    • Changing the color palette.
    • Rotate the image horizontally, vertically, or at a certain angle.
    • Measure distances and angles on the image.
    • Create and edit angles.
    • Posterize photos, this function allows to reduce the number of colors.
    • Support of the special tools for the distribution of color correction, hue, saturation, brightness, contrast, light exposure, color levels and curves.
    • Discoloration of image and invert colors.
    • Convert images in two-tone color scheme.
    • Scaling the image.
    • Presentation of the detailed information about image (size, resolution, color mode, file type and name, the number of pixels, the layers, channels and paths).
    • Insert comments to images.
    • Convert image to another format (for example, convert BMP to JPEG format).

     Working with layers

    • Editing layers. Layers – are miniature images, which are overlaid. The bottom layer – is a background image, and the remaining part of the image are superimposed on top. Each layer consists of attributes, visibility, connectivity and name. Typically, complex images consist of a large number of layers. GIMP  editor can create a layer or group of layers,  set a method of interaction between the layers, set the opacity, size, borders, crop them, combine, adjust layer size for the image size, and much more.
    • Edit the canvas and masks.

     Additional modules

    • Support of the additional filters, containing a large number of special effects to improve the quality of your photos.
    • Include the additional modules to expand the functionality of the program.
    • Scripting languages: C #, Java, Perl, Ruby, Python, or Script-Fu. With the help of these scripts it is possible to fully automate the process of creating images.


    • Make screenshots of your desktop or the active window.
    • Create image from the scanner.
